Major Projects Reports have been produced since 2010 with the intention to provide transparency and assurance about the way Ministry of Defence managed major defence equipment purchasing projects are being progressed.

The Reports are produced by the Ministry of Defence and New Zealand Defence Force. It is independently reviewed by the Office of the Auditor-General. The Reports focus on how well projects are: keeping to the approved budget, adhering to the agreed schedule, delivering equipment to the specifications provided for in the contract.
Ten projects are included in the 2014 report. The report is presented in four parts. Part One includes a detailed assessment of Defence’s management of the projects and their performance (schedule, cost, capability) during the year 1 July 2013 – 30 June 2014. Part One also provides comments on what Defence is doing to in order to improve its performance in managing projects. Part Two provides project summaries for the projects. Part Three includes more detailed, project data sheets/information.
