Medium-heavy operational vehicles (MHOV)
Replaces the New Zealand Defence Force's (NZDF’s) aging medium and heavy operational vehicle fleet with new vehicles.
Up to 200 new trucks have been purchased from Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (Australia), replacing 290 vehicles in the current fleet. This project is part of the NZDF Land Transport Capability Programme.
Project budget of $135 million was approved for the purchase and introduction into service of up to 200 medium heavy operational vehicles. Ten variants of six, nine and 15 tonne vehicles will be supplied.
Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (Australia), signed April 2013 - supply up to 200 medium-heavy operational vehicles.
All vehicles have been delivered to New Zealand and 194 vehicles have been accepted. The Ministry of Defence is exploring recovery vehicle options with Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles (Australia).
The vehicles have already been sent to units and used in deployments, such as to Fiji to help its recovery from Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
