This publication provides documents relating to Cabinet’s consideration of the Strategic Defence Policy Statement 2018. It comprises:

  • the Cabinet minute of decision: Strategic Defence Policy Review 2018 [ERS-18-MIN-0008]
  • the Cabinet paper Strategic Defence Policy Review 2018 [ERS-18-SUB-0008].
Certain information has been withheld from the Cabinet paper where making the information available would be likely to prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand (pursuant to section 6(a) of the Official Information Act 1982).

The Cabinet paper attached a version of the Strategic Defence Policy Statement 2018 as Annex D. This also included information that needs to be protected in accordance with section 6(a) of the Official Information Act. This Annex is withheld in its entirety. All other information in the Annex is materially the same as the Strategic Defence Policy Statement 2018 that is available from this page: https://defence.govt.nz/publications/publication/strategic-defence-policy-statement-2018.
