The updated ITPP outlines the strategic objectives underpinning New Zealand’s cooperation with NATO during the period 2024 to 2027, and sets partnership goals. It responds to the changing global strategic landscape outlined in New Zealand’s defence policy and strategy settings and reiterates our commitment to upholding the international rules-based system through ongoing cooperation and engagement.
The ITPP covers a number of areas where New Zealand and NATO will continue to work together and outlines partnership goals. These goals will be achieved through the continuation of New Zealand’s existing programme of activities such as policy consultations, joint training and exercises, personnel development and exchanges, and cooperation on research.
New Zealand has had a formal partnership with NATO since 2012, but our engagement with NATO dates back to 1997 when NATO’s Stabilisation Force stood up in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
