This document publicly releases copies of the submissions as part of the public consultation for the Defence White Paper 2016. Certain information has been withheld, consistent with the Official Information Act, in order to:
- protect the privacy of natural persons (section 9(2)(a) of the Act)
- protect information where the making available of information would be unlikely reasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplier or who is the subject of the information (section 9(2)(b))
- protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence, where the making available of information would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar information or information from the same source, and it is in the public interest that subject information should continue to be supplied (section 9(2)(ba)(i)).

The Defence White Paper public consultation process was undertaken from May to June 2015. Over 300 submissions were received and 12 public meetings held around New Zealand. It was supported by the Defence White Paper 2015 Public Consultation Document, which is available separately.
